DRIFT

Friday, December 21st, 2012

Just got the vinyl. Living room turned into an overnight record packaging plant :)
One of the finest albums i’ve ever heard, proud to have put it out.

Personal favorite: ‘Grounds’ by %(aka ‘owner operator’)
There was a little fuzzy distortion at the crucial turnaround point in this song. I told Mike(%) about it, just to make sure it wasn’t something unintentional(as i myself wanted to hear it without any fuzz because that part is a very delicate/more-silent part), but he wrote back to me:
“re-listened to the called out part on grounds. the fuzz in grounds is intentional to an extent. i tend to let things like this slip by, as i prefer the imperfection of things fuzzing out a bit here and there… i feel theres a certain honesty to it if i let it slip by after ive listened to this track thousands of times. if you listen to my old tunes you’ll hear things like this.”
so i wrote back to him:
“Ok, no prob, Mike… just needed this answer to move ahead. Although I wish there wasn’t the crackle bleeding over into the calm part, I’m all about deferring to the artist’s preference and really like the philosophy of imperfection(honest/direct) behind it.”

Just to be honest, i still think i would’ve liked it better without it, but all of this is to say, despite these imperfections, perhaps moreso because of them, and the experience i had of making sure the artist was happy with his work, and then going with whatever they believed was best, and finally having it turn out to be my favorite song on the album… simply serves as more proof that it is such an amazing song!

But then, to have all the tracks on this album turn out so well(i’m even extremely happy with my own this time around :) , well… it’s been an amazing experience. Hope i can get the word out, distribute it well, get all these busy friends of mine to stop and take notice, maybe even support it by buying it so that i can get a good share to the artists, at least show them that i did my best to represent ….this album deserves the best of my attention. It certainly doesn’t stop here.

Can Never Have Enough Of Chicago

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Ah, Chicago, one of the best places on earth.

The ‘Duck-Range-Quotient’ :)

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Ha, some folks would start a description of this with “I’m not sure what possessed me to do this” but I have no intention of doing so! I know EXACTLY what possessed me to do this: Catharsis. I needed to do a little house-cleaning of the mind. I believed maybe I could do it in such an organized fashion, that documenting the process might be helpful to others. As I chart what I’ve learned about Max/MSP and creating custom tools in various audio environments, I also thought it could help me to learn still more. By creating tutorials for Max/MSP in 3 parts: “Sampling”, “Sequencing”, and “Interfacing”, I’m hoping to end up charting the path I’d like to take to learn SuperCollider. I’m almost done with the first part, “Sampling”… here is a little peek at my digital lunacy:

Lights 2 PDX

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Been awhile since I played Portland back during the 1st MonomeTour. It was obvious back then, as it is now, the folks there know how to represent. Sublime spirits, PDXers. Looking forward to it.
