This show was magical. Before this, I had played one show in 2005 at ‘Otherworld’. Back then, I did not have my monome, instead, tried to do a mainly laptop and midi keyboard performance which just didn’t generate much enthusiasm from even myself. For this ‘Elemental’ party, I had just finished the lion’s share of development on my monome app ‘~SerpentEclipse)‘. Playing a set with the monome was to prove much more engaging than anything I had ever done before.
The BumpSound crew setup in the middle of the Nevada Desert just outside Reno on Native American owned land: no cop hassles, no problems going loud ’til the wee hours of the morn, no trash or pollution(not even light-pollution). The moon was almost full. There were beautiful pillars of limestone and other rocks all around us. People even lit bonfires atop the rocks to add to the ceremonial feel of the night. To top it off, the crew built their own bass bins. A huge wall of 6 subwoofers quaked the desert floor. I’ve rarely heard anything louder and clearer. They had obviously done this many times before. A night to remember, for sure.
